My Nude Millinery – S/S 2010
There is one trend I am utterly smitten by this year, and it the simple beauty of pastels and nudes, sheer fabrics and laces. This take on innocence and femininity conveys a feeling of nostalgia, a yearning for a past when women wandered around in floaty dresses and sang about eternal love. Call it escapism but I find it truly refreshing…
When I started Merlixa Designs I was using a lot of bright colours, so it was great to experiment with a completely different look. There is something about hats that is feminine in an old-fashioned and mysterious way and using this trend as an inspiration for my millinery designs felt so right.
My imaginary inspiration was an old paper diary with pages turned yellow from age, ink slightly smudged from an old rose pressed between the pages containing fragments of long forgotten stories. Dusty pastels were perfect to communicate the sadness of faded memories. I don’t want to be very sugary about it but I hope I managed to communicate the feelings that isnpired me.
